Ernst Happel Stadion, the largest stadium in Austria, is located in the second district of Austria’s capital Vienna. The football stadium was originally designed for the second Workers’ Olympiad. After the death of Ernst Happel, the name of stadium changed as Ernst Happel Stadion in the memory of Ernst Happel. On the occasion of the 10-year celebration of the Republic of Austria, the foundation stone of Ernst Happel Stadion was laid in the memory of this celebration. The construction work was conducted to the design of Tübingen architect Otto Ernst Schweizer and to the standards of the second Workers’ Olympiad. The European biggest swimming pool is also a masterpiece of the famous architect Otto Ernst Schweizer.
At the very beginning, the football stadium was named Prater Stadium for its location.
